Breathe Easy Play Hard

What They Say:

“Only Pivotal could have envisioned a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity months in advance for us to tell our story to the world in the right place at the right time. They brought that vision to life in ways that far exceeded our expectations. And continue to do so to this day.”
Dr. Janis Schaeffer, Pulmonologist/Founder, Breathe Easy Play Hard

Challenge:

Breathe Easy Play Hard (BEPH), a nascent nonprofit that encourages young athletes with asthma to be all they can be, seeks to address a major gap in youth healthcare around the chronic disease. BEPH aims to solve the problem of a lack of available or after-school sports and exercise programs that promote healthy lifestyle and environment in underserved and at-risk urban areas.

Insight:

Six months in advance of and during the Beijing Olympics, Pivotal seizes an opportunity to launch global dialogue on the environmental and health effects of asthma and air quality on young Olympic competitors. The firm recognizes that Beijing, one of the world’s most polluted cities, provides an ideal “teachable moment” for the BEPH mission.

Solution:

Pivotal devises powerful viral, social and traditional media campaigns for BEPH around the Olympics that instigate a perfect storm for worldwide dialogue around asthma, the 3Hs (heat, haze, humidity) and youth in sports. The firm helps tailor youth asthma awareness programs with several New York-area pro sports franchises--and their star players who have asthma--to further fuel the narrative.

Results:

With its ever-growing credibility and expertise, BEPH “thinks global, acts local”, making the case for after-school programs in New York City’s tough South Bronx and developing the key private and public sector partnerships necessary to advance them forward.
Orthodox Union

What They Say:

“We bring Pivotal in when we need to be two steps ahead and a head smarter than the media. They’ve got an almost uncanny sixth sense for finding and creating the narrative sweet spot in storytelling. Consider Pivotal a secret weapon."
Ilya Welfeld, Principal, Seymour Public Relations

Challenge:

Already the global leader in the kosher certification industry, the Orthodox Union (OU) seeks to further expand its undisputed title by discovering the “next big thing” trend in kosher new business development--and authoritatively speaking out about it.

Insight:

Pivotal uncovers the greatest trend story never told: Within the past five years, the OU has single-handedly and exponentially grown the kosher certification business in China, the world’s fastest-growing exporter. The firm adds timely food safety, quality control and inspection protocol issues to cement trademark assets.

Solution:

Pivotal brands the narrative “China Goes Kosher”, confirming the OU’s financial and world reputation as chief architect and leading market developer for the “globalization of kosher.” The firm emphasizes the role the organization plays in helping the behemoth emerge as the fastest growing kosher product producer in the world.

Results:

To meet supply and demand, the OU eventually launches a China subsidiary, further validating the overwhelming success of the new business development initiative and re-confirming the organization’s reputation as kosher certification’s global leader.

Needle Safety Innovation

Challenge:

Despite the federal Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act (2000) paving the way for safer needles, new safety innovations are still dominated by multi-national medical device companies perpetuating status quo market interests.

With support from a stealth medical technology innovator, a small but influential consortium of needle safety advocates, phlebotomists (blood-drawing technicians) and healthcare professionals band together to raise awareness around currently unsafe needle devices.

Insight:

New scientific research, technology developments and clinical data could further educate healthcare workers about existing needle device problems. Demand for promising solutions that could reduce the high number of reported accidental needlesticks before and during routine phlebotomy procedures would naturally follow.

Solution:

Pivotal helped mount an advocacy campaign focusing on one-to-one, social media dialogues among key influencers to share their life-threatening experiences and engage one another's views on current needle device safety and prevention issues.

Results:

A growing industry consensus is creating a stronger voice for urging manufacturers to bring the latest technology innovations to market. Momentum is mounting for further regulatory mandates to enforce industry compliance with current law.
